On Thursday I attended the Annual Meeting of Central Bedfordshire Council – this meeting is the start of the Council’s year, with the new Chairman being appointed, and all other appointments to the Council (committee places, the Council’s Executive and representatives to outside bodies) being confirmed.
I was delighted to be appointed as Deputy Executive Member for Families, Education and Children. I held this position in the previous Council, and I look forward to working with the Children’s Services team at CBC again.
I will again be chairing the Corporate Parenting Panel, and I look forward to working with some of our looked after children to shape the services we provide.
I was also appointed as the Council’s representative on both the Fostering and Permanence Panel and the Joint Adoption Panel. It has been a privilege to work with the professionals on the fostering panel for many years, and I am pleased to be continuing in this role, and to be joining the adoption panel for the first time.
Following a few years away from the Police and Crime Panel, I will be one of 4 Councillors from CBC to be serving on the PCP. Policing levels in the town is something that I know is of great concern to many local residents, and I see this as an opportunity to challenge the PCC and senior officers and voice the concerns of local residents.
Aside from the Annual Meeting, Cllr Carol Chambers and I visited Greenfields on Thursday morning.
Looking to the week ahead, I am honoured to have been nominated to be one of two CBC Councillors attending a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. I will share some photos later in the week!
And on Monday evening I will be attending the Town Council’s Annual Meeting at Astral Park, where appointments to committees on the Town Council will be approved, and the new Mayor will be confirmed.
