A look back on policing in LB

I am honestly not looking to be deliberately confrontational towards our PCC Kathryn Holloway, but when she claims on twitter that (quote) ‘you have more warranted officers in the Community Hub in L Buzzard involved in problem solving than ever before’, she must have forgotten to qualify this statement with ‘… since I have been PCC’.

The evidence would suggest that within recent memory there was a fully staffed police station in Leighton Buzzard, and not long before that there was also a police station in Linslade (the linked article from the LBO was written in 2013, so does not reflect the changes that have happened since 2013 including the demolition of LB Police Station).

I accept that policing has changed, but I am sure we have had greater numbers of warranted offices in the past.

“But in 1988 the station’s staffing was very different. Back then it was a fully-functioning police station, with its own enquiry office with five staff;”

“So, without mentioning any of the patrol side of the station, we have a total of ten civilians and 13 police officers”

“to fulfill the needs of policing our town and surrounding villages we had four Police Sergeants with 12 officers”
